Six months have now passed since the devastating earthquake struck Haiti and many ALNAP members launched massive relief and recovery operations.

The Haiti Learning and Accountability portal contains details of several ongoing evaluations and learning projects, as well as other key resources. The Portal is now also available in French.

Since the joint ALNAP/ OECD-DAC EvalNet/ UNEG meeting in London, the Haiti Evaluation Taskforce has convened its first teleconference and the minutes of this meeting are now available.

It is our hope that these complementary initiatives will contribute to more informed, coordinated efforts to assessing and improving performance in the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake.

With that in mind, I am launching this forum area, which will link directly to the Haiti portal, as a place for anyone involved in these efforts to share their thoughts, comments, concerns, best practice or any other information that could be useful for others working in Haiti.

Are other ALNAP members aware of the Disaster Accountability Project's report on the 'transparency of relief organizations responding to the 2010 Haiti earthquake' (Summary here, full report here ).

The report has been covered in a few news websites including Le Monde and the New York Times, among others.

This might be interesting input into the evaluation framework. Describes the national response. By Beverly Bell, Other World "From Disaster Aid to Solidarity: Best Practices in Meeting the Needs of Haiti's Earthquake Survivors" (April 2010). This was commissioned by PAPDA (Plateforme Haïtienne de Plaidoyer pour un Développement Alternatif) a local NGO partner independent in its own right but also a partner with Oxfam in Haiti.

Consultant - Mapping Analysis for Haiti Evaluative Response, ALNAP

I am an independent consultant working with the ALNAP team on a mapping and analysis of evaluations of the Haiti earthquake response. The study is looking to build on the Haiti Earthquake Response: Context Analysis, using the draft evaluation framework presented in the paper to map and analyse past, ongoing and planned evaluations of the response.

I would like to invite you to share terms of reference, reports and any other information or materials related to evaluations of the Haiti earthquake response by posting them in this forum. These will appear on ALNAP's Haiti Learning and Accountability Portal.

We hope to see a 'Haiti virtual evaluation community of practice' emerge as a result of this work, bringing together a group of interested stakeholders involved in evaluations on a regular basis to:
(a) update each other on evaluation plans;
(b) discuss potential areas where resources could be shared; and
(c) discuss key operational and conceptual issues including utilisation of evaluation findings.

I look forward to working with you to build our community of practice towards a common goal: a humanitarian community that understands, reflects on and uses its experience to improve our performance - in Haiti and in future emergencies.
