Previous initiatives
Previous ALNAP initiatives range from trialling new approaches and tools to commissioning studies on topics relevant to ALNAP’s mandate. ALNAP has also developed guidance material for operational staff.
- In 2003, ALNAP members trialled the concept of a Learning Support Office during the Southern Africa Food Crisis.
- ALNAP members collaborated on a comprehensive study on participation and consultation of affected populations in humanitarian action between 2002 and 2005.
- ALNAP has undertaken R&D work on the topic of protection. Following draft publication and piloting, a final version of the ALNAP guide on protection was launched in 2005. This has quickly become recognised as a valuable contribution to humanitarian guidance on this topic.
- Most recently, ALNAP hosted and coordinated the Tsunami Evaluation Coalition (TEC), a cross-sector initiative to assess the performance of the tsunami response through five themed evaluations. The TEC was commended by former US President, William J Clinton.
