28th ALNAP Meeting on Information and Evidence in Humanitarian Action
Accurate information is a vital tool for humanitarians. It can provide evidence of current or anticipated needs; demonstrate those elements of a response that are working, and those which urgently need to be changed; and support the development and improvement of life-saving practices. But there are many challenges to the collection of information and the use of evidence in humanitarian response, arising from the context of operations and from the culture of the humanitarian system.
The next ALNAP Meeting will look at these challenges and – building on the experience of Network members and invited experts - try to find ways to address them. Our hope is that by bringing together a broad group of actors we will encourage a constructive dialogue aimed at understanding the potential for improving the use of evidence in humanitarian programming.
In addition to the two days spent on the main theme of the 28th ALNAP Meeting, there will be one day set aside for a meeting of NDMAs and for skills-building workshops for evaluators. On the last day of the meeting, Full Member representatives of organisations in the Network will have the opportunity to discuss issues of common interest and join discussion groups around specific themes.
The meeting is planned to take place in Washington, D.C. in March 2013 (exact date tbc).
