||Senior research associate
I am a freelance consultant and writer specialising on international development and humanitarian issues. I am currently writing a book on complexity sciences and international aid which will be published by Oxford University Press. I also write and edit a blog on the same theme entitled 'Aid on the Edge of Chaos': www.aidontheedge.info.
I currently hold honorary positions of Senior Research Associate at the London School of Economics and the Overseas Development Institute, and am a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Development Studies at Sussex University.
In my previous role as Head of Research and Development at ALNAP, my role involved leading a team of researchers, policy analysts, communications specialists and consultants in a range of innovative projects aimed to improve humanitarian performance through learning and accountability.
Whilst at ALNAP, I worked on a variety of emergency responses (including Myanmar, Gaza, the Food Price Crisis and Haiti), strategic issues such as innovations and organisational change, and groundbreaking new projects, including the State of the Humanitarian System initiative and the Southern Networks initiative.
Before joining ALNAP, I was Deputy Director of the Humanitarian Futures Programme at Kings College and Knowledge and Learning Specialist at ODI. Before that I worked in the private sector.
