ALNAP meetings

ALNAP meetings aim to share information and perspectives on issues and activities relevant to learning, accountability and performance within the humanitarian sector.

The biannuals are usually held around May/June and November/December each year, and are usually hosted by an ALNAP member.

Who attends ALNAP meetings?

Meetings are open to ALNAP Full Member representatives only, though a limited number of Observer Members are invited to attend the first day of the meeting.

How are ALNAP meetings structured?

Each Biannual Meeting lasts two days. The first day usually focuses on a particular theme relevant to ALNAP’s work. The second day focuses on ALNAP business and allows members to share information with each other.

Important note

In 2009, ALNAP's Steering Committee decided to reduce the number of meetings from two annually to one annually. This is a response to the current financial crisis, and a recognition that a number of ALNAP Full Member Organisations have restricted their travel budgets.

This new arrangement will be in place for 2009 and 2010. After this, the situation will be assessed with a view to returning to the original 'biannual' concept.

The next ALNAP meeting will take place in November of this year and will be hosted by The Humanitarian Futures Programme in London. The provisional theme of the meeting will be ‘Innovations in Humanitarian Action’, building on ongoing work by ALNAP to be published in the 8th Review of Humanitarian Action.
