23rd Biannual Meeting
News Media and Humanitarian Aid
4-5 June 2008

The 23rd ALNAP Biannual Meeting was held in Madrid on 4 and 5 June 2008. Day one, chaired by Kate Adie, provided a platform for representatives from media and humanitarian agencies to discuss different dimensions of their relationship under the theme of News Media and Humanitarian Aid.
The meeting was opened by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias. The welcome address was delivered by Leire Pajín, the Spanish Secretary of State for International Cooperation, and José María Figueres, former president of Costa Rica, chaired the closing plenary session.
The large group of media personnel participating in the meeting included past and present international news correspondents including Peter Arnett, Bill Dowell, Tim Singleton and David Pratt, as well as humanitarian media specialists including James Deane, Martyn Broughton and Ben Parker.
