Paul Knox-Clarke, head of research and communications at ALNAP, gave a presentation on the relationship between National Disaster Management Authorities (NDMA) and the international humanitarian system at a workshop on humanitarian issues hosted by ALNAP-member DFID.
ALNAP has been working to build relationships since the annual meeting in Kuala Lumpur in 2010 (Read the report in English here). Since then, we've strengthened our NDMA focus: 14 NDMA representatives came to the ALNAP annual meeting; as well as a greater reflection of NDMA voices in the flagship State of the Humanitarian System report.
We will be increasing our work with NDMAs to consider approaches to support NDMAs to evaluate responses and learn from responses. We expect that this will complement work being done by ALNAP members IFRC, OCHA, SDC and ICVA who build dialogue between international system and NDMAs.
