Protection

Promoting the protection of affected-populations in humanitarian assistance was a key theme for ALNAP. Humanitarian organisations often operate in environments where governments are not willing or able to protect their citizens. In the absence of official authority structures, humanitarian agencies are often left with the moral dilemma of how to operate in this environment: should they compromise humanitarian principles of neutrality and impartiality to intervene or advocate on behalf of vulnerable peoples?

ALNAP's protection activities aimed to fill the gap in knowledge and guidance for humanitarian organisations involved with these issues, whilst promoting the sharing of experiences and best practices amongst humanitarian organisations:
