The purpose of this minimum standards is to encourage consistency and ensure quality in relation to the establishment and running of child friendly spaces. This standard uses the term ‘child-friendly spaces’ to mean safe spaces where communities create nurturing environments in which children can access free and structured play, recreation, leisure and learning activities suchas key messages around WASH, abuse, exploitation, safety, or protecting themselves from harm. This reflects Standard 17 in the Minimum Standards for Child Protection in Humanitarian Action.
