Emergencies and Affected Peoples: Philosophy, Policy and Practice Conference Outcomes from 4 July 2014

Emergencies and Affected Peoples: Philosophy, Policy and Practice, a conference for theorists and practitioners working on or toward improving the lives of those people affected by an emergency (conflict, war, humanitarian or natural disaster) was held in July 2014 at the University of Birmingham (UK). The purpose of this conference was to stimulate debate on the topic in an attempt to improve the lives of those affected.

This paper was used as a source for synthesised recommendations used in the Briefing Papers for the Global Forum on Improving Humanitarian Action, taking place in New York on 4/5 June 2015.

The Briefing Papers are intended to provide a general background to the key obstacles that inhibit good, effective humanitarian action, and the recommendations that have been put forward around the WHS process to address these obstacles.
