Final Independent Evaluation of the project 'Improving nutritional status through an integrated multi-sectoral approach in South and North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo'

“Improving nutritional status through an integrated multi-sectoral approach” in South and North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo was the 2nd phase of a 12 month project (01 June 2013 to 31 May 2014) funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) for $1,500,000 CAD. The project was designed in response to the nutrition needs of families displaced from North to South Kivu in 2012. It admitted and treated children under 5 years old with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). For this purpose, it built the capacity of Government health care staff. It improved sustainable access to potable water, sanitation and good hygiene practices. It reinforced the livelihoods of 4,275 conflict affected households through agricultural recovery and income diversification. Finally, it provided integrated nutrition and hygiene education and access to livelihoods through community based structures.
