The International Rescue Committee (IRC) - in partnership with Action contre la Faim (ACF) and the Institute of Water and Sanitation Development (IWSD) have implemented since the last quarter of 2013 a comprehensive Disaster Risk Reduction programme in Zimbabwe, aimed at addressing vulnerabilities and mitigating risks through targeted Risk Management Policy and Practice, Water, Hygiene and Sanitation, and Agriculture and Food Security interventions in Manicaland and Masvingo provinces in Zimbabwe. ACF’s part in this programme was the promotion of disaster risk management (DRM) and of national integrated food and nutrition policy and frameworks across ten priority districts, spread evenly over the two provinces.

An external evaluation was conducted between 27 October and 12 November 2014, some weeks before the closure of the ACF’s part of the programme, which is about 3 months earlier than the two other consortium partners. The evaluation was aimed at assessing the effectiveness and the impact of the project, as well as the sustainability of this impact and its likely long-term effects. At the same time, lessons learned from the project were to be identified and recommendations were to be made to strengthen similar projects in the future.
