The GRFC 2023 Mid-Year Update highlights that high levels of acute food insecurity persist in 2023 due to protracted food crises and new shocks, with improvements in some countries. Data available for 48 countries as of August 2023 shows that over 20 million more people face high levels of acute food insecurity than in 2022 (a 10 percent increase). The increase is due both to an expansion in analysis coverage among vulnerable populations, and persistent or intensifying conflict/insecurity, weather extremes and economic shocks.

The GRFC 2023 Mid-Year Update is the output of a unique partnership and technical process that brings together the expertise of 16 food security and nutrition partner organisations to update the information presented in the Global Report on Food Crises 2023 and is facilitated by the Food Security Information Network in support to the Global Network Against Food Crises.
