Cities are influenced by the regional context in which
they are located and vice versa .
Brazilian cities can be differentiated not only by their
population size and demographic trends but also by their
capacity as poles of attraction for entire regions and urban
networks. These polarizing capacities are defined on the basis of
political, economic and locational variables .
