The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the development of a meta-theory of decision-making. One of the prime concerns of this meta-theory will be the conceptualization and treatment of the "error of the third kind." Ordinary statistics or decision theory only deals explicitly with the errors of the first and second kinds. It is the purpose of a dialectical decision theory to deal explicitly with the error of the third kind.
